Rest Before Resolutions

I feel like I want to start with a big “WAY TO GO”. You made it through December.  Now here we are in January with all its expectations. So after you bought the gifts, decorated, prepared food, and lots of socializing, NOW you need to be creative and productive in 2026. Not to mention get healthy - whatever that means.

LET’S JUST STOP!

BREATHE!

ASK:

Am I ready to dive into new?

Do I need to rest?

What really worked for me in 2025?

Am I excited about moving forward OR does that need to wait until February?

Which approach will help you operate from a full cup?

Let me share mine as examples. These are some things that worked last year. I am not changing those.

For me they are:

1-Hormone Replacement Therapy(HRT) - you might say too much information - well if you experienced the results you would want everyone to know.

2-Working Out - Strength Training and Cardio

3-Coffee Time - visiting with my hubby while I empty the dishwasher and he makes coffee.

4-Reading - Self Help, Fiction, and Religious

5-Processing Time - Therapy, Journaling, Talking to myself in the woods, Talking to AI

What worked well for you? Any tweaking needed before you continue on?

So as you sort out what is already working for you, how do you track tasks - the everyday - the things you can’t let go. Are you able to hold all this in your head? You know - laundry, grocery shopping, menu, etc…. Do you need an app to keep it all straight? Ever thought about how much energy it takes to hold things in your head or have you noticed the difference it makes when you write them down.

The other day I was having a day - I felt overwhelmed, unfocused, and irritable. I realized I hadn’t sat with my planner for probably a week and I had things I didn’t want to forget to do, meeting prep, and I wanted to get a feel for whether I could fit in some time to scrapbook. I took my planner outside. It was a sunny day, so I unloaded my overwhelmed brain onto the pages and regrouped. I immediately felt better. I knew what needed to be done and thought I had time to have some fun too. I no longer had things zooming around in my mind or lists on whiteboards, everything was organized in one place. RELIEF!!!

I am not proposing you run and grab a planner, I am suggesting you do what works for you. Consider: is holding it in your head working? You might ask, “What about changes or goals or growth in the NEW YEAR?”. Start here: Could you take some time to put all that is in your head somewhere safe? Make your list or identify your top priority and ONLY focus here. Can you break that one thing into several tiny steps that you can begin to tackle?

Most importantly, if you are worn out and exhausted any planning or goals will feel impossible and probably won’t be your best work. It is ok to recoup before you try and create - actually I bet you have an easier time and the results are so much better. For me it has taken me a few weeks to recover and I am finally feeling able to look at the upcoming days/weeks. I still haven’t looked at the year - trusting it will come.

Please remember, as consultant Teri Pichot reminds me: SLOW IS FAST.

If you would like some help getting unstuck and sorting through the everyday, a difficult situation, a relationship struggle, work/life balance, a death or something else, I would be honored to sit with you and help you work through this. I can help you begin to sort out not only how to manage, but your next steps.
